Bernardo Silva doesn’t just see Pep Guardiola as a manager he sees him as someone who changed his career and his way of thinking about football.
Since joining Manchester City in 2017, Silva has been part of one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. League titles, unforgettable matches, and a style of football admired around the world all came under Guardiola’s leadership. For Silva, working with Pep has been demanding, intense, and incredibly rewarding.
“Even when we win 4-0, Pep finds things to improve,” Silva explains. That constant push for perfection is what makes Guardiola special. He notices the smallest details and expects his players to do the same.
A Special Generation at City
Silva knows he has been lucky to play in a truly great Manchester City team. Players like Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Kyle Walker and others helped build something special. Winning the Champions League in 2023 was the biggest moment a reward for years of hard work and belief.
Now, the team is changing. Some familiar faces have moved on, and a new generation is stepping in. Silva admits it’s not easy to replace such big personalities, but he believes the club’s strong culture will help City stay competitive.
“Every great team has its cycle,” he says. “What matters is how you adapt.”
Football Began at Home
Silva’s love for football started early in Portugal. He always had a ball at his feet, even inside the house sometimes to the frustration of his parents. He joined Benfica’s academy at a young age and never looked back.
That passion is still there today, even after hundreds of matches at the top level.
Life Away from the Pitch
Away from football, Silva enjoys simple things. He loves spending time with his family and going for walks with his two dogs. Their names often make people smile John, named after teammate John Stones, and Charles, inspired by Prince Charles.
For Silva, these quiet moments help him switch off from the pressure of professional football.
Looking Ahead
When asked about life after football, Silva admits he doesn’t have all the answers. For now, his focus remains on enjoying the game, helping his team, and continuing to learn especially under a manager like Pep Guardiola.
One thing is certain: Bernardo Silva knows he has been part of something special a great manager, a great generation, and memories that will last a lifetime.
