Ben Sulayem Re-elected Unopposed as FIA President

Mohammed Ben Sulayem has been re-elected as president of the FIA, the governing body of world motorsport, after standing unopposed in the latest election.

The 64-year-old will now serve a second four-year term after receiving the backing of FIA member clubs at the organisation’s General Assembly in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. With no rival candidate meeting the nomination requirements, Ben Sulayem was the only name on the ballot.

Ben Sulayem first took office in December 2021, becoming the first Middle Eastern president in FIA history. Since then, he has overseen major changes within the organisation, including financial recovery, internal reforms and a stronger focus on governance across motorsport and mobility.

Speaking after his re-election, Ben Sulayem thanked FIA members for their continued trust. He said the support shows confidence in the direction the federation is taking and promised to keep working for the benefit of motorsport, mobility and member clubs around the world.

Why the Election Was Unopposed

Several possible challengers were unable to take part because of FIA election rules. These rules require any candidate to put forward a complete leadership team that represents all regions of the world. Since no other candidate met these requirements, Ben Sulayem ran without opposition.

Some people have raised questions about the process, but FIA officials say the election was carried out according to the rules and reflects the organisation’s democratic system.

What Comes Next

Ben Sulayem’s new term will last until 2029. During this time, he is expected to focus on improving the FIA’s finances, increasing transparency, and helping guide the future of global motorsport, including Formula 1.

With another term confirmed, Ben Sulayem is set to continue shaping the FIA at an important time for the sport.
